My mom noticed the other day that her iPhone 8 plus would not shut off after receiving a notification or if she pressed the home button. It would just stay lit for hours on end. After a little research and general knowledge that sometimes the iPhone needs to be reset this is what I came up with. Force a restart. Press and quickly release the volume up button and then the volume down button. Finally, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. This seemed to work for now. Hope this helps some of you out there. A hard reset is quite different now. I used to be able to just press the home and on/off button simultaneously and it would reset. iPhone 8 and X are a whole new animal.
